“Preaching is primary….exposition is paramount” (Stephen Olford

Today we pick up again ‘The Preacher and….’, the series looking at crucial aspects of the life and ministry of the preacher, and continuing the present theme of ‘The Preacher and…..his study’. As I was thinking about this over the past day or two I came across a brilliant post by Tim Challies called ‘Reading Better with Richard Baxter‘. I would strongly encourage you to visit Tim’s great site and read the whole piece for yourself but here’s a flavour of it for you - a quote from Baxter:

“Make careful choice of the books which you read: let the holy scriptures ever have the pre-eminence, and, next to them, those solid, lively, heavenly treatises which best expound and apply the scriptures, and next, credible histories, especially of the Church … but take heed of false teachers who would corrupt your understandings.”
